Subject: Establishment of Soap Bank in Schools on Global Handwashing Day 2021 Global Hand Washing Day (GHD) is a global day celebrated on 15th October every year to raise awareness about the importance of hand hygiene and to make hand washing with soap sustainable and long lasting.

Dedicated to adoption.  This year’s theme is “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together”. Children spend 8-10 hours in school and washing hands with soap improves health and education of children.  Infection can be prevented.

According to WASH Survey-2050 in Gujarat, soap is not available daily for washing in 5% of schools. All schools need to be equipped with soap for hand washing. On the occasion of Global Handwashing Day 2021  The DEO, Mr. DPEO, BRC / CRC Coordinator will have to visit at least one school to inaugurate a soap bank on the occasion of Global Handwashing.  Must be completed by 2021 and mandatory report must be uploaded on the given link (1.ly/Sv89) by 30 October 2021.

Design of soap bank: 

Box of any shape and size which will be made as easy to handle, durable and waterproof soap bank. It can be decorated by teachers and students as shown in the sample picture.

 When setting up a soap bank, teachers, headmasters, students, village representatives and the community will be encouraged to donate soap to the soap bank.  

 School guests will be encouraged to donate soap to the soap bank during any occasion visit. The soap bank will always have soap and its timely replenishment will be ensured.

 The soap bank will be managed by the students.  Under the supervision of a teacher, two students will be appointed as the manager of the soap bank, coordinating with the children’s parliament where it is established.  

The replenishment and management of the soap bank will be discussed during the sessions of the Children’s Parliament.  

Every year during the World Handwashing Day on 15th October-2021, all the schools should convene a meeting of the Children’s Parliament to take a pledge on regular hand washing with soap.  Should be shared with teachers and staff
