If children in the first standard are made to copy without understanding, they will become averse to reading and writing.  Thus, if the words are introduced by the method of chanting, without understanding, then most of the children recognize the letter and the word.  Have a hard time reading.  
A lot of research has shown that the meaning of a text is captured only when its words are read easily and quickly.  This is possible only when children develop basic vocabulary skills from the beginning and are systematically taught. When children are learning to read, word recognition through decoding is an important method.

What is sound awareness and why is it necessary?  In the previous unit we learned about the basic skill of decoding print consciousness.  In this unit we will discuss his second skill sound awareness. 
 What is sound awareness?  When children get into school, they are good at speaking the home language but do not know that the spoken sentences are made up of words.  Neither do they realize that every word spoken.
