Most of the content on this site is based on Sanskrit or Samskritam. You can read translations to understand their content, but the best way would to be learn the language so that you can derive your own meaning. Samskrita Bharati (India and USA) is an excellent resource for learning the Sanskrit language. The Sanskrit Dictionary is also a valuable resource to find meaning of specific words. The beauty of the literature is realized if you can understand the individual words directly without the usage of any translation.

Most of the translations miss the beauty of the literature, which is the poetry and the experiments with the words the author often performs. Most of the popular Sanskrit literature is in the form of poetry in the form of Slokas, Stotrams, or Vedic Scriptures which adhere to a specific meter in chanting them, rather than prose which is a mere text explaining thoughts. The same meaning can often be expressed in a hundred different ways if written in prose, but when using poetry according to a Chandas (meter), one needs to be careful about the selection of the words.

In ancient Indian literature written by enlightned Rishis, these Slokas or Stotrams often come naturally and the beauty of the Scripture is fully understood only when one goes back to the source by reading the Sanskrit Slokas and Stotrams and understanding them. There is so much power in these words that one is believed to attain Punyam (virtue) just by chanting these Slokas or Stotrams without understanding the meaning, but the benefit of chanting them by understanding every word of it is immensely powerful.

Vaidika Vignanam was founded in 2006 as an online collection of spiritual and devotional literature in Indian languages. It started as a blog and then later evolved into a full website in 2010 as https://vignanam.org. It was created primarily as a website to catalog the Stotrams for myself. Over time, it has emerged as a popular resource to find the lyrics to popular Stotrams like Hanuman Chalisa, Lingashtakam, Aditya Hrudayam, etc. in Indian languages. Over the past years, I have added several Stotrams to the site with help from other contributors. Our goal is to make it a resource for accessing all of our scriptures in one place.
