Designed on the pedagogy of science, this module has been developed for teachers teaching science in the upper primary section.  This module sheds light on how children learn science in the upper primary section.  The module highlights the following points.

Humans always have a curiosity to know about the environment around them.  Careful observation of the physical and biological environment creates a meaningful structure and relationship.  There has been an attempt to understand the world on the basis of observation, to form a hypothetical model and, through it, to arrive at rules and basic principles.

This endeavor of man is science.  Science is dynamic.  Which expands the horizons of knowledge by covering new experiences.  Science is an organized system of knowledge.  Which is based on investigation arising from natural curiosity with logic and experimentation.

In a progressive society, science frees people from the cycle of poverty, ignorance and superstition.  Mankind today is facing a rapidly changing world where the most important skills are change ability, innovation and creativity.  This requirement should be kept in mind to mold the teaching of science.  True science education is good for student life and discipline.

At the upper primary level the child sees science as a subject for the first time.  At this stage, science transitions from the study of the environment at least in the primary stage to the basic element of science and technology.

This stage should be chosen to teach science concepts that help in understanding everyday life. Experiments and activities should become essential components of the teaching-learning process.

NMMS EXAM SCIENCE  TEST

The concept of science at the upper primary level should not be driven by a disciplined approach.  At this stage science should be taught as an integrated subject.  The child should be taught the principles of science through well-known experiences as well as through simple activities, through simple and industrial models.  Care should be taken to learn more about the environment and health, including reproductive and sexual hygiene.
