A society that does not properly care for the mother, the motherland and the mother tongue. It decays. The 21st century of knowledge can only be achieved through the mother tongue. We have to make ‘Pragyanmayi’ not just ‘Shaan’. Understanding the importance of mother tongue, UN – World Organization celebrates 21st February as World Mother Language Day.
It was announced by UNESCO worldwide on November 18. On 21 February 19, when Bangladesh was in East Pakistan, Urdu was made compulsory in West Pakistan, a riot broke out in the country due to disrespect for the mother tongue Bengali, and 3 Bangladeshis were martyred. There is a memorial of the martyr of 21st February in Dhaka.
World Mother Language Day is celebrated on 21st February from the year 2000 in memory of the martyrs for this mother tongue. The General Assembly of UNESCO decided to celebrate ‘Mother Tongue Day’ on 21st February on 21st February. The World Health Organization has been celebrating this day since the year 500. The world body sends a message that all the countries of the world should be proud of their mother tongue and organize development and maintenance programs for it.
Recognizing the linguistic diversity and cultural differences in the world, the message is to reach a state of excellence. It has a motivating message to further enhance the multilingual beauty of the world. We celebrate the golden year of the state of Gujarat for the pride and promotion of mother tongue Gujarati, its best celebration.
Let’s do it. Let us cultivate the mother tongue Gujarati in the same way that the words of the poet Umashankarbhai are evoked. We don’t like narrow Gujaratiness, we only like world citizenship!

The celebration of World Mother Language Day will be an occasion to capture the message of preserving our diverse cultural heritage. It carries the message of preserving the linguistic and cultural features of public life that is becoming world-wide.
It is an occasion to teach Janmasan to accept, understand diversity and thus learn the lessons of tolerance. It is an occasion to develop international understanding on the basis of multilingualism and multiculturalism. And that is the call to spread the message of world peace.
The question of language education in Gujarat has been the most confusing. The trilingual formula was not properly adopted at the national level. If the trilingual language was adopted in Gujarat, then the confusion of the place of English and Devbhasha Sanskrit continued.
The question of English language education became political without thinking academically or academically. The incident sparked a backlash in Gujarat. English medium schools have been torn apart, which has further hampered the teaching of mother tongue Gujarati.
The way the mother tongue is being ignored, one cannot hope for a ‘bright people’ and a bright Gujarat. Instead of saying ‘excellent English but medium is Gujarati’, English medium schools are opening in Gujarat in a big, business style. A new ‘India’ is created in India. Such class divisions pose a great threat to the transformation of a harmonious society. A quality education tailored to a democratic country cannot be realized.
