In the next standard you worked with different types of information.  You learned how to gather information, organize it into a table, and display a diagram.  Collection and presentation of information helps us to organize our experience and draw conclusions.

In this chapter we will take a step towards learning how to do it.  You will come across some different types of information and graphs.  You may have seen different types of information through newspapers, magazines, television and other sources.  You also know that all information must give us some kind of instruction.  Let us look at some examples of information that come before us.

These words come up again and again in our daily lives.  We often say that there is no chance of rain today and we also say that India is more likely to win the World Cup.  Let’s understand the terms better.  Consider the following statement.

(i) The sun rises in the west direction (i) The height of the ant increases up to 3 meters.  (ii) If a large size cube is taken, its side will also be large  (iv) If a circle with more area is taken, its radius will also be greater.  () India will win the next Test series.

By looking at the sentences above you can tell that it is impossible for the sun to rise in the west.  It is also impossible for an ant to grow up to 3 meters in size.  On the other hand if the area of a circle is greater then it is certain that its radius will also be greater.

You can say the same thing for the larger size of the cube and its longer side.  India, on the other hand, will win or lose the second Test series.  It’s both possible. Reference Text Book Gujarat board
